ToggleWhat is meditation?
“Meditation is an adventure. An adventure into the unknown – the greatest adventure the human mind can undertake.” – Osho, I am the Gate
Meditation is the path of awareness. And this path is an inner process, it starts from within. Meditation is to be in contact with the truth, it is awareness, it is experience. As Osho says, it is “an adventure into the unknown”, beyond the control and limits of the mind. It is freedom!
“Meditation is just to be – no action, no thought, no emotion. You just are, and it is sheer delight.” -Osho: The Orange Book
There are many meditation techniques, however meditation is not a technique. Meditation is witnessing. Witnessing of whatever happens inside – the body, mind, and emotions – and outside – the world around you – without reaction or judgment. It gives the opportunity to take distance from the body, mind, and emotions, and experience your inner being in the here and now. It allows you to step out of the noise of the chattering mind and be in the natural state of silence, relaxation and completion.
«The greatest miracle in life is to understand this, and to turn the energy towards home. It is a turning-in. It is not that you leave the world. You live in the world – there is no need to leave anything, or go anywhere else. You live in the world, but in a totally different way. Now you live in the world but you remain centered in yourself; your energy goes on returning to yourself. You are no longer out-going: you have become in going. Of course you become a pool of energy, a reservoir, and energy is delight, sheer delight. Just energy there, overflowing, and you are in delight, and you can share, and you can give in love.” -Osho, The Dhammapada: The Way of the Buddha
OSHO® Active Meditations
“Techniques are helpful because they are scientific. You are saved from unnecessary wandering, unnecessary groping. Ιf you don’t know any techniques, you will take many lives.” – Osho, The Book of Secrets
Τo help the contemporary seeker reach an experience of meditation, witnessing and inner stillness much easier and faster, Osho, the twentieth century Indian mystic, created several active meditation techniques. These meditations have been used by millions of people around the globe since the early 1970’s with outstanding results.
OSHO Active Meditations are scientifically designed meditations that combine physical movement with emotional release, helping you unlock deep-seated feelings and experience inner silence faster than traditional forms of meditation. They involve stages where you may laugh, cry, jump, shout, dance, or simply move your body freely—releasing anything you have been suppressing. These techniques have specific structure, stages and specially designed music that supports each stage. They guide you to express your deepest emotions so that after the emotional and physical release, you come to the state of meditation, to silence and witnessing, easily and naturally.
Why to meditate? What are the benefits of meditation?
Just as regular exercise is essential for your physical health, regular practice in meditation is essential for your mental, emotional and spiritual health. It allows you to transform the fear of the unknown and begin enjoying life fully in the here and now. Some of the beneficial effects of meditation are:
Reduces Stress
Meditation is known to lower cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress. It helps you to relax and take distance from the body and mind. From this state of relaxation and witnessing, you are able to manage easily and effectively any situation in life, no matter how stressful may seem for the limitations of the mind.
Improves Focus and Concentration
Regular meditation helps increase your ability to focus and concentrate. Through specific practices both body and mind are trained to remain still, centered and disciplined. This way you become the master of your body-mind and you can maintain focus for longer periods.
Brings Clarity & Grounding
Meditation helps the chattering mind quiet and allows the inner truth to be revealed. The barriers of the mind that keep us limited open and the filters through which we unconsciously choose to look at life dissolve. We see life clearly, as it actually is in the here and now. When we are in the company of truth, we are grounded to reality and we are able to make conscious decisions according to what is needed each time.
Enhances Emotional Well-being
Meditation can improve your mood and emotional stability. It brings happiness, gratitude and contentment. Meditation is a coming home. It is re-connection with your being, with all that is, with the Source of everything. This connection is nurturing for the body, mind and spirit promoting the person’s health, aliveness and joy for life.
Promotes Better Sleep
Meditation is total relaxation. By learning the way of shutting down the mental chattering, letting – go and be in silence, the quality of your sleep is improved and insomnia symptoms fade. You learn to feel and listen to your body and become aware of its needs. So, you know when it wants to be active, when it wants to rest, when it wants to sleep. You get synchronized with your bio-rhythms.
Enhances Creativity
When the worries stop and there is no distraction within, then there is space for creativity. Meditation is no-mind. It is a way to get out of the mind and become empty. When you are in this emptiness, when there is nobody inside you, creativity comes. You become a vessel for the new to be born and expressed through you. You have in-spiritation, creative insights and ultimately you become the creator of your own life!
Improves Physical Health
Meditation can reduce blood pressure, improve immune system function, and lower the risk of heart disease. It can also improve the physical condition of the body as some techniques include stages of physical movements that strengthen the body and increase its endurance. Other techniques such as breathing techniques are also beneficial for the respiratory and circulatory system. Meditation may also help with pain management by altering how your body perceives pain.
Strengthens Resilience and Ability of Responding
Meditation can help you develop resilience by teaching you to respond calmly and consciously to life’s challenges instead of reacting impulsively. By learning to take distance from the mind and as so from the outside situations, you become a watcher, “a watcher on the hills” as Osho says, watching everything from distance, from a non-attached perspective. In this state of being there is no stress, no fear, no rush. Only silence and awareness. From this state you can respond to any situation in life with the most effective and beneficial way for you and for all.
Increases Compassion and Empathy
Meditation brings you to your heart and your sensitivity. In essence meditation and love are one unity. As Osho says they are two wings of one bird.Through meditation you embrace yourself and all there is. You can feel less angry and resentful, connect to other people, and experience the highest form of love, compassion.
Improves Relationships
Meditation means presence. It means being connected with yourself. Once you are connected with yourself, then you naturally connect with anyone and anything at any time. There is no issue of doing something or putting effort to create a good connection or a good relationship. You are natural, you are present and the connection happens. You are conscious and attentive and any relationship grows and blossoms naturally and beautifully.
Bringing Purpose and Direction in Life
By taking time to meditate you get tapped into your inner wisdom and guidance. You learn to listen and trust your intuition. This way you can start synchronizing your energy and actions according to your true potential and make decisions aligned with your truth, your values and passions. By being aligned and fulfilling your unique potential, you find meaning and purpose in life and you feel happiness, joy and gratitude experiencing the grandeur of this life!

Through OSHO Active Meditations and awareness techniques, these sessions are designed to bring you into this state of awareness, to bring you in contact with your true being and start living a joyful and fulfilling life.
‘Wherever you go, whatsoever you do, always do it in the inner light, with awareness. That’s what meditation is all about – to become more alert. Live the same life, just change your alertness – make it more intense…Everything changes with your inner change…If somebody changes his within, the without changes totally. My definition of the world is this – you must be living in a deep inner darkness, hence the world. If you light your inner lamp, suddenly the world disappears, and there is only the divine. The whole thing depends on your inner awareness or unawareness. That is the only change, the only transformation, the only revolution, that has to be made.”
-Osho: The Dhammapada: The Way of the Buddha
